Project Brief

The Alloy Parking was originally designed to be a web based application with the following requirements:

    • Ability to scan QR code on sign and enter car and payment information
    • Enforcement feature for property managers
    • Ability to white label the app with a property’s brand colors and images

Other issues and considerations for the application shown below with a lot of discussion around how we were going to handle the payments, specifically around mobile wallets.

1st iteration

The first iteration was designed with a time selection slider that worked the same way as a parking meter and you could add time at a later time if needed.

The decision was made to use a phone number and sent code as a log in procedure as we had this implemented in another of our products already.

Guest Experience

Enforcement Experience

2nd iteration

The second iteration was designed with a on-demand payment where the user would enter their payment information and we they would be billed until they checked out of the space. Also at this time we started to focus entirely on the guest experience and drop the enforcement piece.

The decision was made to allow the user to save their credit card information for future use and would be saved in the menu.

3rd iteration (Deployed)

The third iteration focused on a redesign of the checked in screen showing the time elapsed and a new view after the user checked out.

4th iteration (Add Bluetooth/Pin Code Building Access)

The 4th iteration focused on adding a pin code or bluetooth access to the parking garage or building. We currently have an app called Alloy Pass which allows users to unlock bluetooth locks using a credential on their phone. The solution was to add directions to the current web based app to show a pin code or download our Alloy Pass app.

This becomes quite complicated so I created flow charts for all situations to help me with my design flows. The purple represents the area where a user would have to download a second app.

Proposed Solution: Combine Parking and Alloy Pass App

I was not in favor of the user experience asking users to use two different apps so I combined our Alloy Pass App with the Parking to create a much more streamlined experience.

I also designed a customer experience outside of the app with the sign below. Based upon setup of facility the location of the sign would change. Designing the parking sign and experience outside of the app was just as important as the user interface.
